Obituary for Marilyn E. Macgeorge

Marilyn (Lynne) J. Macgeorge, 84, passed away at home on Monday, March 19, 2018 surrounded by her family.

Lynne was born in 1933 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, the oldest daughter of Verna Bechtel Jones and Ralph Latchow Jones.. She attended Ursinus College and graduated as a R.N. from Women’s Medical College Hospital in Philadelphia, PA in 1954.

Volunteer and part-time work at the hospital kept her hand in nursing while raising her family.

However, her life’s work focused on women’s health as a nurse and site manager at Planned Parenthood in Beacon, NY that spanned more than three decades. Her compassionate and courageous work changed many lives and helped empower the women she cared for.

Theater, art, and music were other passions of Lynne’s. She was a stage manager many times with the Children’s Theater in Poughkeepsie in the 1960’s. She also enjoyed productions at County Players, many trips to Broadway shows, Tanglewood, art museums, and Vassar College’s Powerhouse Theater every summer.

Her kitchen table was the place of gathering for honest, engaging conversations, lots of laughter, love and tears with her diverse circle of friends, family, her children, and all of their friends. She was a second mother to many. Lynne especially loved her grandchildren; they brought her life so much joy and happiness.

She leaves her children Patricia Bettinger, her spouse, Richard Bettinger, Dean Macgeorge, his spouse, Diane Macgeorge, Allison Sassano, her spouse, Walter Sassano and Karen Macgeorge, four grandchildren, Christopher Macgeorge, Meghan Macgeorge, Harrison Sassano, and Laurel Sassano, and one great grandchild, Adelynn Macgeorge.
She also leaves her sisters, Patricia Hottenstein, Janice Bishop and Susan Shafer.

A celebration of Lynne’s life will be held in Pennsylvania in July.

Donations can be made in Lynne’s name to Planned Parenthood of Mid-Hudson Valley, at www.plannedparenthood.org/get-involved/other-ways-give.
