Bartholomew James "Bob"  Palmara
FISHKILL – Bartholomew “Bob” James Palmara, 90, died on November 7, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Brooklyn on February 14, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Domenica (Silvestri) Palmara. Bob proudly served in the US Navy during WW II. An avid baseball player, he played for the Navy’s league and had been drafted by MLB, but chose not to play.

On May 9, 1948 in Brooklyn, Bob married Mary (Panariello) Palmara who predeceased him in 1997. He was also predeceased by his son, Johnny Palmara in 2005 and his sister, Josie Horan in 1981.

He had been employed for over 30 years at Brisk Water Proofing Company in New Jersey until his retirement in 1989. During his employment, Bob worked on many notable and historic buildings in New York City and Washington, DC including the White House, the Vice President’s house, the Smithsonian, and many well know hotels.

Bob enjoyed hunting with his friends. He was a member of the New Hamburg Yacht Club, and enjoyed boating on the Hudson River with his wife. In his younger years, he was an avid wine maker.

He is survived by his daughters, Domenica “Donna” Beghin and her husband Tony of Wappingers Falls and Maria Palmara of Albany; his grandchildren, Joseph and Matina Pappalardo and Jennette and Ray Nagle; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; his sisters, Marie Portigiano and Maryann Wildermouth; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10:15 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
