Obituary for
Ronald J. Casey
POUGHQUAG – Ronald J. Casey, 68, an area resident for the past 40 years, died unexpectedly on May 13, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He previously lived in Carmel.
Born in Danbury, CT on April 11, 1948, he was the son of the late Harold and Amelia (Taber) Casey. He proudly served in the US Army, and was stationed in Korea and Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Ronald had owned and operated Capricorn Wholesale Foods in Carmel until 2008. In his retirement, he continued to work at Zafar Produce.
A skilled craftsman, he enjoyed many hobbies such as woodworking, furniture restoration & refinishing, yard work, and working on cars. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Poughkeepsie Lodge # 275.
On September 7, 1991, he married Ellen Steinitz in Yorktown Heights. His beloved wife survives at home in Poughquag.
Ronald is also survived by his children and their spouses, Ronald J. Casey, Jr. (Sasha) of Albany, Tara Cirigliano (Matthew DeHond) of Hopewell Junction, Michael Casey (Lance) of New London, CT, Daniel Cirigliano (Kelly) of Unadilla, and Kari Atkins (Heather) of Staatsburg; his grandchildren, Colin & Henry Casey, Casey, Juliella, & Larkin DeHond, and Ava, Gabriel, & Griffin Cirigliano; his brother, Douglas Casey (Kathryn) of Carmel; his parents-in-law, Charles & Mary Steinitz of Mahopac; his sister-in-law, Carol King of Wappingers Falls; his brother-in-law, Richard Steinitz of Mahopac; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who he considered to be part of his family. Ronald was predeceased by his first wife of 15 years, Patricia (Ashby) Casey, who died on November 21, 1987.
He was looking forward to the birth of his ninth grandchild, Baby Atkins, who is due this week.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 18, beginning at 10 a.m. with Rev. Tim Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, where the US Army will conduct Military Honors.
