Obituary for Linda Blanche Fitzsimmons (Maszden)

POUGHKEEPSIE - Linda Blanche Fitzsimmons, 68, an area resident since 1985, passed away on July 27, 2023 surrounded by family at Vassar Brothers Medical Center following 15 months living with an initial diagnosis of Stage 4b cancer.

Born on February 15, 1955 in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Alice (Ruzek) Maszden. Linda received her master’s degree from St. Joseph’s Seminary in 2001. Linda was dedicated to the ministry of religious education at both the parish and Archdiocesan levels. She was the Regional Director of Religious Education for Dutchess and Ulster Counties during the last 14 years of her career. As part of her religious mission and commitment she also trained Deacons for the Archdiocese.

Linda was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Holy Trinity. She enjoyed all types of puzzles, classic movies, unique accessories, hiking in nature, and traveling by train. She was also a regular blood donor and will be remembered for her fondness of cats.

Linda met her husband John (Jack) Anthony Fitzsimmons during Freshman orientation at Siena College in 1973. They were instant friends, became true partners, and were married on May 20, 1978 at Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville. She is survived by her husband Jack, as well as her children, John A. Fitzsimmons Jr. of Poughkeepsie, Heather Fitzsimmons (Chris Gammone) of Clinton Corners, and Zack (Kristen) Fitzsimmons of Worcester, MA; and her sister Carol Nelson of Bloomingdale, NY.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 6, from 2–6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, August 7, at 10am at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie followed by interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Kingston.
