Obituary for William J. Keating

William John Keating of Fishkill, NY, formerly of Hopewell Junction and Hampton Bays, NY, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on June 8, 2022 from complications of 9/11 related illness.

Bill was born in White Plains, NY, on June 13, 1961, to John and Jean Keating (nee Boylan). Bill’s lifelong passion, helping people, led him to a life always in service of others, including more than 20 highly-distinguished years serving as a New York City Police Department Detective. He retired in 2002.

Bill married the love of his life, Lizbeth Thedinga, over 33 years ago, at St. Barnabas Church, Bronx. He is survived by Lizbeth; their loving children, Lindsay and Michael; five siblings, Laurajean, Matthew (Virginia), John (Betsy), James (Alice), and Kathleen (Rick Hennings); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, all of whom he was very devoted to.

Bill always put his loved ones first (with golf running a close second). He traveled widely and golfed avidly, with Hilton Head, Saratoga Springs and Hampton Bays all holding special places in his heart. His favorite golf partner always was his son, Michael. Bill’s quick wit and an infectious laugh made him the veritable life of every party and he will be sorely missed, always in our hearts.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Hudson Valley Hospice.
