Obituary for Rochelle L. Cannizzaro

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Rochelle L. Cannizzaro, 79, died on June 8, 2022 at Phelps Memorial Hospital.

Born in Richmond Hill, Queens on May 2, 1943, she was the daughter of Daniel and Ethel (Koppel) Battista. She was a resident of Dutchess County and was a graduate of the Arlington Central School District. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, and a member of the St. Denis, St. Columba, St. Kateri Altar Rosary Society.

Rochelle was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She truly loved and cherished her two grandchildren. They brought her great joy. She loved animals. Especially dogs and her grandpup, Gino, brought her such happiness before crossing over Rainbow Bridge four years ago. She was a woman of great faith, and generous in spirit and heart. She dedicated herself to helping others.

She had an extraordinary way of making everyone feel special. She never forgot a birthday celebration or a special occasion. Gifts were always beautifully wrapped with the perfect paper and bows. Talking with her family and friends each day was something she very much enjoyed. She had a distinct laugh that will always be remembered.

On December 30, 1973 at St. Mary’s Church in Poughkeepsie, Rochelle married Michael A. Cannizzaro who predeceased her on November 16, 2004. She was also predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Ethel (Koppel) Battista ; her son, John Greco, in 1990; her daughter, Collette Cannizzaro, in 1998; and her brothers, Dan Battista and Gary Battista.


Rochelle is survived by her sons and their wives, Joseph and Lois Greco, Daniel and Amanda Greco; her grandchildren, Kaleb and Genevieve; her sister, Patricia Ban; her brother-in-law, George Ban; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 9-11am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 11:30 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
