An Open Door
I only met Chu Saveth once, but I can clearly see her smile and feel her warmth and energy. It was a snowy day in January when I drove to the Saveth home to pick up my son Douglas who is a William and Mary College friend of Victor's. Douglas and his friends loved the "extended" New Year's party hosted by the Saveth's. When Chu introduced herself and invited my son Ben and me in for something to eat while Douglas gathered his things, I could fully understand why this home was such a favorite gathering place. There were tables of holiday food, bright decorations, good smells, and smiling young people in every room. But most of all there was the gracious, patient, welcoming presence of Mrs. Saveth. True hospitality is a gift and she exuded and shared it with a grace and sincerity I shall not forget.
