Obituary for Dorothy E. Odell

STORMVILLE – Dorothy E. Odell, 80, an area resident since 1958 and formerly of Danbury, CT, passed peacefully on June 25, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Born in Danbury on September 2, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Russel Sr. and Ethel (Hamilton) Schork. Dot was employed in data entry for Watson Pharmaceutical in Carmel until her retirement in 2009. She had also worked as a cashier and assistant manager for Fishkill Farms.

Dot had attended the Church of the Resurrection and the Wiccopee Community United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Sylvan Grange. She enjoyed line dancing, but more than anything, she loved spending time with her family and friends, who are her biggest legacy.

Dot was a dedicated life member of the East Fishkill Fire District, serving both Stormville and Wiccopee Fire Companies. She was one of the first female firefighters and was the first support officer for the district. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and served as their president for many years. She was also a member of the East Fishkill Rescue Squad.

Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, George Edward Van Anden, Sr; her second husband, Robert William Odell, Sr.; her granddaughter, Calina White; her step-grandson, Billy Odell; and her siblings, John Hamilton, Russel Schork Jr., Arty Schork and Chubby Schork.

Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses, George Van Anden Jr., Christine and Thomas McCluskey, Lisa and Richard Wallace, Ross and Eileen Van Anden, Edward Van Anden and Tara; her step-children and their spouses, Robert and Phyllis Odell, David and Kathy Odell, Shirley Odell; her grandchildren and their spouses, Geoffrey and Jessica Van Anden, Nicole and Cole Morrison, Ryan and Jessica McCluskey, Roy and Jessica White, William and Brianna Penny, George and Karissa Wallace, Allison and Cody Schneggenburger, Colleen Van Anden, Patricia Van Anden, Kristina Van Anden, Tyler Van Anden, Dylan Van Anden; her step-grandchildren and their spouses, Patrick and Melissa Odell, Kelly and John Dixon, Jamie Parker, Wesley Calkins, Windy and Eric Frank, Michele and Jeff Baucom, Rick Armitage, Judy Tanzosch, Sarah Tanzosch, Rebecca Tanzosch, Kate Tanzosch, Ann and James Winges, Virginia and Ross Eddy, and Tara and Frank Fischetti; her great-grandchildren, David and Jaime Van Anden, Harper, Charlie and Tessa Morrison, Reagan McCluskey, Calina and Shelby White, Georgia Wallace, Ava and Mia Schneggenburger, and many other step great-grandchildren; her siblings,

Helen Barbara, Charles Schork, William and Janet Schork; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service on Friday at 11am at the funeral home followed by interment in Hopewell Cemetery.
