Obituary for Douglas Glenn Nestler

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Douglas Glenn Nestler, 88, a lifelong area resident, died at home on June 11, 2022 on the 24th anniversary of his son Patrick’s death.

Born in Poughkeepsie on July 8, 1933, Doug was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Tanner) Nestler. He proudly served in the US Army. On July 29, 1956 at St. Denis Church, Doug married Carolyn “Lyn” (McKeown) Nestler who predeceased him in 2020.

Doug’s career spanned over many decades. He started at a young age working at Thornton’s Garage in Wappingers then he worked at IBM. He then began working in Home Building before owning Three Star Nestler Aluminum for over 20 years. Doug was a well-known local commercial Real Estate Broker and Land Developer. Doug was also the owner and operator of 9D EZ Storage in Wappingers and Hopewell EZ Storage. He was past Chairman of the East Fishkill Planning Board for 14 years, a member of the Dutchess County Homebuilders Association, the Southern Dutchess Exchange Club, and the Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency. More than anything, Doug enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at their home, which he built, on Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Mary Jo and Stephen Kraus and Michael and Tilly Nestler; his grandchildren, Liam and Maura Nestler; his brother, Bruce Nestler and his companion Donna; his sister, Beth Martin; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Doug was also predeceased by his son, Patrick Nestler on June 11, 1998; and his brother-in-law, Jack Martin.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00-11:30 am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 12pm at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
