Obituary for Norman E. Wright

LAGRANGEVILLE - Norman E. Wright, 90, an area resident since 1993 and formerly of Mohegan Lake, died on October 7, 2018 at the Pines of Poughkeepsie.

Born in Brooklyn on August 1, 1928, he was the son of the late Vincent and Grace (Taylor) Wright. Norman had been employed with Con Edison and then Union Carbide in Tarrytown. He enjoyed giving piano and organ lessons to many young students over the years. He also was a jack of all trades and could always be found building, fixing and helping friends and family with odd jobs whenever he was needed. An accomplished musician, Norman studied at The Julliard School in New York City and the Baptist Tabernacle in Brooklyn. He was a member of the Cold Spring Baptist Church where he played the organ for many years. He also played the organ in many churches in the Hudson Valley area over the years, including West Point. He was a member of the Poughkeepsie Senior Center where he enjoyed many fun times with his friends. Norman will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather with a heart of gold, who taught his family the importance of loyalty, hard work, a strong faith, and a wonderful sense of humor.

On November 28, 1954 in Brooklyn, Norman married Lois (Korwan) Wright who predeceased him on June 4, 2001. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Stacy and Phil Messina of LaGrangeville, Paul Wright of Stuyvesant, Peter Wright of LaGrangeville, Karen and Scott Forsberg of Lagrangeville; and his grandchildren, Katie McCusker, Andrew McCusker, Cody Forsberg, Taylor Forsberg and Brittany Wright.

The family would like to thank The Pines Nursing Home for their loving care, patience, and attention to Norman's needs, especially the 6th floor nurses and nurse’s aides.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 12 from 2-5pm with a Funeral Service at 4:30pm. Interment will be held on Monday, October 15 at 2:00pm in the LaGrangeville Cemetery.
