Obituary for
Ruth Lauritsen (Tompkins)
Ruth Lauritsen, 104, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2018 at her home at the Fountains at Millbrook. She was a lifelong resident of Dutchess County, having resided in Beacon, Poughkeepsie, and Millbrook.
Born in Beacon, NY, she was the daughter of Bertram and Louise Tompkins. She graduated from Beacon High School and the Vassar Brothers Hospital Training school for Nurses. She went on to spend many years as an operating room nurse and working in public health. From there, she completed her BA degree from Oneonta State University and became a school nurse teacher in the Wappingers Central School District until her retirement in 1983.
Ruth was a very active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie. She also did volunteer work with the Mended Hearts organization. Her passions were gardening, caring for others, and dogs.
She was happily married to Charles Lauritsen for 57 years. He predeceased her in 1996. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Peter Kryworuczko of Wilton, CT as well as many nieces and nephews. Her brothers Carlyle and Lewis Tompkins, and her sister Eleanor White also predeceased her.
Calling hours are from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, June 21 at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 22 at 11 am at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 55 Wilbur Blvd., Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery immediately following.
