Ann Calano
POUGHKEEPSIE – Ann Calano, a Dutchess County resident since 2003 and formerly of the Bronx, died on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 93.
Daughter of the late Rocco and Angelina (Spadafino) Colavito, she was born in the Bronx on November 6, 1924. On November 15, 1947, she married the love of her life, Walter Calano. Ann was predeceased by her husband on September 15, 1987.
She will be remembered as someone who loved to cook and spend time with those she loved. No one ever wanted to miss one of her fabulous Italian meals. Ann was loved and revered by her loving family and everyone who knew her.
Survivors include her son, Barry Calano and his wife Josephine of Georgia; her daughter, Laurie Fontana of the Bronx; her daughter, Emily “Chickie” DiLeo of Wappingers Falls; her son, Randall (Randy) Calano of Mahopac; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her brother, Rocky Colavito of Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives & friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ann was also predeceased by two brothers, Domenico and Vito Colavito; as well as her sister, Clara Squeo.
Calling hours will be held from 2-6pm on Sunday at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10am on Monday at St. Joseph’s Church, 95 Plum Brook Rd., Somers, NY 10589. Interment will follow at First Calvary Cemetery 49-02 Laurel Hill Boulevard, Woodside, Queens, NY 11377.
