Obituary for Dorothy Anne Delia

Dorothy Anne Delia, 88, a resident of Poughquag since 1988 and formerly of Peekskill, died on October 13, 2017.

Born on April 20, 1929 in Peekskill, she was the daughter of Norman and Georgianna Haight. She graduated from Peekskill High School in 1947 and worked at the VA Hospital in Montrose as a secretary to the Director of Nursing.

Mrs. Delia was active in all school affairs while her children were in school, including various PTAs and in the Parents’ Club at Peekskill High School where she served as secretary for three years. She was also an active member of the Christopher Columbus Auxiliary in Peekskill where she had served as Vice President. She was a parishioner of St. Denis Church In Hopewell Junction.

On February 11, 1950 at the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill, Dorothy married Dominick A. Delia, Sr. who predeceased her on October 13, 2014. She was also predeceased by her son, Dominick A. Delia, Jr.; and her son-in-law, Roger Dingee.

Mrs. Delia loved to cook, sew and crochet for her family and friends. She will be greatly missed and will always be in the hearts of her family and friends.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Joy (Vincent) Colucci and Elizabeth (Stanley Wright) Dingee; her sons, Joseph (Amy) Delia, Michael (Linda) Delia, and Ralph (Kathy) Delia; 15 grandchildren, Vincent (Jennifer) Colucci, Anthony (Kate) Colucci, Michele (Ryan) Diggelmann, Tina (Greg) Post, Hillary (Brandon Pra) Dingee, Ryan (Alisha) Dingee, Danielle (Dalton) Smith, Joseph (Corrine Perrone) Delia, Nicole Delia, Brooke (Tom) Burke, Kristen Delia, Michael Delia Jr., Guy Delia, Ralph Delia, and Lauren Delia; and 18 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Delia is also survived by her sister, Jean Work; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 11am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
