Obituary for Robert T. Drennan

Robert T. Drennan
Fishkill - Robert Thomas Drennan, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 6, 2017, after a long illness. He was 66 years old.

Bob was born on Staten Island on August 15, 1951 to the late John and Marie (Flescher) Drennan. He graduated from Monsignor Farrell High School in 1969, and went on to earn his Bachelor's degree at SUNY Oswego in 1973. While at Oswego, Bob was a member of Sigma Gamma fraternity, where he formed many lifelong friendships. In his senior year, Bob met his future wife, the former Nancy Cotter. Bob and Nancy were married on August 18, 1973, at Saint Christopher's Church in Buchanan, NY.

After graduation, Bob went to work as manager of his family's moving business, Joseph F. Drennan and Sons, on Staten Island. Bob then joined the sales team at Whalen's Allied in Mount Kisco in 1984, where he won several national sales awards. In 2012, he began to work at John C. Murphy Moving and Storage in Brewster. Throughout his career, Bob thoroughly enjoyed every facet of the moving business, and he was respected far and wide for his professionalism.

In 1984 Bob and Nancy relocated their family to Hopewell Junction. A warm and friendly man, Bob quickly embraced his new community. In the late 1980's he founded the Town of Wappinger Men's Modified Pitch Softball League, and happily pitched many games. Bob also served for many years on the vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fishkill, where he was a much-loved member and enjoyed helping to renovate several parish buildings. He could also be often found enjoying golf on many local courses.

Bob was loved by all who knew him. Nicknamed the Gentle Giant by his grandfather, he spent his life helping others, never asking for anything in return. With his wonderful smile and sunny nature, he will be sorely missed by his family and friends, who were truly blessed to have known him.

Bob is survived by his beloved family: his wife Nancy at home, son Tom (Nicole) Drennan of Mohegan Lake, and daughters Beth (Ron) Newbery of Hopewell Junction, and Julie ( Francis) Daly of Peekskill. Bob also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren: Ryan, James and Emma Newbery, Carrie Daly, Henry Drennan, and a soon-to-be born Daly grandson. He is also survived by his two brothers: Dennis (Frances) Drennan of Canton, Ohio, and Gregory (Gail) Drennan of Easton, PA, his sisters-in-law Alvina Drennan of Westfield, NJ, and Patricia Cotter of Canton, Ohio, his uncle, Richard Drennan of Staten Island, and his former sister-in-law Barbara George of Windsor, Maine. Also left to mourn him are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his eldest brother, NYC Fire Captain John Drennan, Jr.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1200 Main Street, Fishkill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to the James J. Woods Scholarship Fund, 36 Pinto Road, Pearl River, NY 10975 or to Trinity Episcopal Church, 1200 Main Street, Fishkill, NY, 12524, both of which were dear to Bob's heart.
