Obituary for Jary L. Orsley (Gartin)

Jary L. Orsley (Gartin)
Jary L. Orsley, 69, a resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of San Jose, California, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 with her husband and sons by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on April 20, 1948 in Anderson, Indiana, she was the daughter of Mary and the late John Gartin of Anacortes, Washington. Her family moved to San Jose, California where she went to school and met her future husband, John Orsley, at San Jose State University. John and Jary were married on June 21, 1969 and had their sons Michael in May of 1972 and Mark in July of 1975. They moved to Wappingers Falls later in 1975 where that same house serves as the “home base” for family celebrations and gatherings to this day.

Jary was a stay at home mom while her sons attended school and was very involved in the Wappingers Central School District including holding positions of President of the PTA and a member of the WCSD Board of Education where she fought passionately to provide the best educational experience for all the district's students. Later, she was an administrative assistant and office manager for Westage, the Hyde Park School District, and Nationwide Insurance until she retired in 2010.

Jary enjoyed collecting Nancy Drew books, attending craft shows and balloon festivals, feeding and watching birds from her living room window, playing with the family dog Jake, listening to old radio shows, and watching old movies. By far, her favorite activity was spending time with the family, whether it was playing the Wii with her grandchildren, or just sitting, talking, and laughing around the table. Most of all, Jary will be remembered as a loving, supportive wife and mother, and a kind, caring friend.

Jary is survived by her husband John, her sons Michael (Michele) of New Providence. New Jersey, and Mark of New York, New York; and her grandchildren Marissa, Max, and Jack. Jary is survived by her mother Mary and her sister Jody (Ernie) Santos of Gladstone, Oregon; and predeceased by her brother Jack Gartin of Kobe, Japan.

The family would like to thank all those that treated and cared for her at the Dyson Center for Cancer Care, Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Hospice, and all her friends and neighbors who provided support.

In lieu of flowers, the family request you make a donation to the Colon Cancer Coalition “Get Your Rear in Gear” charity run/walk event they will be participating in on October 22nd in New York City to raise awareness of colon cancer screening. Donations can be made at www.coloncancercoalition.org by selecting “Give”, then “Give online to a participant or team”, and search for team: Colon-Ors-copy

Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 9th from 5pm to 8pm at McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. The funeral service will follow at 8pm. Please visit Jary’s Book of Memories at www.mchoufuneralhome.com.
