Gertrude E. Campbell (Hughes)
Gertrude Elizabeth Campbell, the daughter of Arthur and Ethel Hughes, born on October 25, 1936 in Manhattan, NY passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 with her daughter by her side. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Joseph E. Campbell and her beloved son Cpl Timothy C. Stewart, USMC, her brother Arthur Hughes, and parents. She is survived by her brothers, Donald and Joe Hughes and sister Alice Hughes; six children, Thomas Stewart and his wife Leslie, Christine Turlo and her husband Matt, James Stewart, Daniel Stewart and his wife Kathleen, Theresa Marinaro and her fiancé Frankie Bellotte, William Stewart and his wife Joanie; 12 grandchildren, Monica Bombard, Ryan Stewart, Amanda Owens, Ashley Marinaro, Alek Marinaro, Delaney Stewart, Timothy John Stewart, Shannon Stewart, Celene Stewart, Madeline Stewart, Joey Stewart, and Timothy Sean Stewart; 7 great grandchildren who she was blessed to have; and many nieces and nephews.
Gertrude remained in the home as a dedicated mother raising her seven children all while sending them to catholic school and supporting their faith. She was known for her gracious hospitality and entertaining. Gertrude ventured outside of life as a homemaker and mother to work as an executive secretary for A.C Dutton Lumber Corporation as well as Alpha Laval and IBM for many years. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Columba and St. Michael parishes.
Gertrude enjoyed volunteering in many capacities from St. Columba school activities to serving as the Secretary on the Board of Timber Oaks / Driftwood Village. She remained devoted to her faith, she enjoyed swimming, playing the organ and enrolled in college classes later in life and had a gift for writing as well as telling stories. She had great joy in spending summers with her grandchildren in her Florida home.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10 am at St. Denis Church followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
