The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Rose Jackson can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Clara Marie Halmond

I will always remember my first Cousin Rose. Clinkie, to me always. The first time that I met her, spiritually, she seemed more like an Aunt, because of the way she would talk to me. As a woman with much wisdom, which drew me to her. And, especially, her smile with laughter in her eyes. I will always remember her, also, smiling broadly, as she told me that I was just like some other family member that she knew. I was particularly drawn to her quick sense of humor. I am so thankful, the last time that she and Shabazz came to visit, she suddenly told me the whole story of how she got her nickname, Clinkie. Daddy used to tease her so much, as children, because she always wanted to follow him and play with him and his other friends. She didn't care, she would follow him around anyway. I was just getting ready to ask her how she got the nickname, Clinkie. I will always have wonderful memories of my excitement when I learned that Marcia and Felicia were coming to visit. I had not seen them since we were children living in Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. We all would be so excited because Daddy, always talked about his nieces, and so much of his life in Harlem, New York. Memories of our wonderful first family reunion in Fishkill. And, Rose, still with her wonderful spirit of laughter. What a wonderful time it was for me to meet my other cousins. Just to know who my other family was. Jerhone sends his condolences to the family, also. He was so drawn to Rose. He loved her artwork, and very excited when he learned she was an artist. I shared with him that Rose was a child of the Harlem Renaissance. Absolutely, Wonderful! And, the last time that I spoke to her in a telephone conversation, she told me exactly what I should do concerning Daddy and why. She knew Daddy in a different way. I am still here with Daddy for his nieces. Family, you all have my deep, heartfelt condolences. Rose will always live on in my heart. I will never lose her.
