Rose L. Jackson (Shaw)
FISHKILL – Rose L. Jackson, a longtime resident of Fishkill and Dutchess Junction, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 31, 2017. She was 91.
Daughter of the late step-father, George, and Isabella (Hillary) Shaw, she was born in Harlem New York on August 6, 1925.
She was the first generation after the great southern migration moving north. Rose was a child of the Harlem Renaissance, enabling her to take her talents for art and poetry seriously. She went on to win art and writing contests at Wahdleigh High School. Rose was very proud of her early job working in the commercial art department of an advertising agency. After marrying, she moved to Beacon, to raise a family and work as an Inspector at Chemprene, Inc. in Beacon. Even with a full-time job and a large family, Rose continued to paint, right up until the time of her passing. Her paintings were included in shows at the Howland Center, Beacon Library, and the Chase Bank lobby in Beacon. Rose also enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, reading, thrifting, and attending theater.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip Aaron Jackson, on April 18, 1992.
Rose is survived by her son, Shabazz Jackson & his wife Josephine Papagni of Clintondale; her daughter, Jody Jackson Satriani of Poughkeepsie; her daughter, Marie Jackson of Beacon; her son, Warren Jackson of Medford; her grandchildren, Alicia Jackson, Kitama Seeger Jackson, Moraya Seeger DeGeare, Justin Jackson, Khadijah Jackson, Yadira Sims, and Keith Sims; her great-grandchildren, Gabriella Williams and Raiden DeGeare; her sister, Felicia Walker & her husband Walter of Hopewell Junction; her sister, Marcia Ballard & her husband Walter of Cary, NC; her uncle, John “J.C.” Halmond of Washington, DC; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Rose was also predeceased by her sister, Isabell Spruill and her brother, George D. “Sonny” Shaw.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 18th from 2 to 6 pm at the Beacon ElksLodge, 900 Wolcott Ave, Beacon, NY 12508
